Micro-sponsorship FAQ
1. What the hell is a micro-sponsor?
Micro-sponsorship is a word we may or may not have made up. It means that lots of sponsors can pay small amounts of money rather than a small number of sponsors paying loads of money. For a small-ish local-ish meetup we think it makes a lot of sense. I guess we'll see.
2. Who can sponsor a drink at FFX?
Anyone. You don't need to be a company. If you're not a company we can link to your blog or Twitter profile, or whatever you like.
Ultimately we have final say over who is listed as a sponsor (we just have to, we're not mad). But hopefully everyone will play nice and we won't have to reject anyone for being unsuitable or offensive.
3. What do I get in return?
A warm, fuzzy feeling ... plus we'll place a logo on our wall of sponsors and link it to whatever web page you wish. The size and position of this depends on how many drinks you've bought and how terrible your logo is. (only kidding about the last bit, but seriously - who uploaded this?)
At our discretion, we may also promote you via our Twitter account and tell our members about your services; especially if we think they're relevant or just plain awesome.
4. How do I give you the dosh?
Visit our as-yet-unpatented micro-sponsorship widget; make your pledge; enter your details and checkout with PayPal. Once we have confirmation of payment we'll upload your logo to our wall as soon as we are able.
If you happen to be boycotting PayPal, we might [at our discretion] send a specially trained carrier pigeon to pick up the cash. Notes only please.
5. Can I sponsor a drink, then come along and drink it?
Yes, I suppose you can. Well done, you've spotted a loophole. It might have all been drunk by the time you turn up though; that's Karma.
If you've sponsored a whole round, we'll insist you come along and raise a glass with us.
6. Why have you capped sponsorship at 10 drinks?
The idea is that no single sponsor can dominate the wall by bidding silly amounts of money. We won't be able to drink it all anyway .. probably.
If you really want to sponsor us more than the maximum £40 and you're willing to share the limelight with the other 10-pinters, then get in touch.
7. Why not raise money for charity instead?
We are.. well, we're donating half the cash to Shelter. We still need a drink, sorry; it is Christmas.
8. Can recruiters sponsor and/or attend the event?
We'd prefer not to see recruitment agencies or agents on the wall of sponsors - it undermines the concept of Freelance Friday. By the same token we'd prefer agents didn't attend the event.
However, as we have a self-service sponsorship system we can't stop recruiters forcing money into our bank account. If this happens we may choose to honour the sponsorship the same as we would for anyone else (notwithstanding point 2, second paragraph). In such a case though, we won't endorse the sponsor via our promotional channels.
